Sustainable STEM

Coleman ISD’s Pam Cohea is an innovative STEM teacher that works for Coleman Elementary and the campus’s 21st Century Community Learning Center Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) Program. She is so extraordinary; in fact, in 2017, she was named Coleman Elementary’s Teacher of the Year.

With her hands-on approach, Mrs. Cohea has led her students to self-discovery by enabling them to explore different aspects of learning. “She has a passion for teaching and wants to make learning fun for all students,” says Jacque Rosales, Coleman ISD’s 21st CCLC ACE Project Director.

Mrs. Cohea helps her students build self-confidence and independence through ACE and STEM activities such as the Young Engineers Program, which affords students the opportunity to design their own video games and skyscrapers. There is also the Elementary News Crew where students get the chance to report daily announcements and conduct weekly interviews.

Additionally, she educates her students about living healthy and productive lives through tangible examples and experiences. She had an aquaponics system installed to educate students about the life cycle. Her classroom also features three Tower Gardens where students grow and harvest fresh, organic vegetables and herbs and learn about hydroponics.

After 30 years in the classroom, Mrs. Cohea is the definition of an #IAmTXEd teacher. “We are blessed to have Mrs. Cohea working with our students every day and she is definitely an amazing Texas educator,” says Rosales.
