Evidence-Based Prescription Drug Awareness Programs

In accordance with the Texas Education Code, Section 28.002(w), the Texas Education Agency has compiled a list of evidence-based prescription drug misuse awareness programs which include programs, practices, or strategies that have been proven to effectively prevent nonmedical use of prescription drugs among students, as determined by evaluations that use valid and reliable measures and that are published in peer-reviewed journals. The programs listed were identified in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP) and met the statutory requirements for an evidence-based program. Districts shall choose a prevention program to use in the district’s middle school, junior high school, and high school health curriculums.
