TEA is committed to ensuring that all Texas LEAs provide eligible students with high-quality special education services. For the 2023-2024 school year, the Texas Student Data System (TSDS) Child Find collection, including State Performance Plan Indicators 11 (SPPI 11A - Timely Initial Evaluation; SPPI 11B – Eligibility Determination) and SPPI 12 (Early Childhood Transition), submission deadline for LEAs is July 25, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. 

Data Collection Period

  • Children with a special education eligibility determination date (E1716) from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024 must be included in this data collection.  
  • Data for both enrolled students and non-enrolled children, regardless of final special education eligibility status must be reported. 
  • A unique ID for each child is required for this submission (refer to TSDS Child Find: Unique ID for Non-enrolled Children for guidance). 
  • The complete data submission timeline is available on the TSDS Web-Enabled Data Standards (TWEDS) webpage. 

Data Submission Deadline

The data submission deadline for the Child Find collection is July 25, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.

  • Extensions are available on a case-by-case basis through the TSDS Core application. 
  • Only LEA Superintendents or delegates with the “Core LEA Data Approver” TEAL role and “Child Find Access” privileges may access the extension requests.  
  • Users can mark the LEA data submission complete beginning on May 20, 2024. 
  • All other system functionality, including promoting data, running reports and correcting data validation errors remains available prior to the submission deadline. 

LEAs with no students to report for SPPI 11 or SPPI 12 are not required to submit Child Find data but may be contacted by the TEA to confirm their “no students to report” status.

For questions, please contact your respective ESC TSDS Child Find Champion or TSDS Technical Champion (ESC 1-10 or 11-20). Support can also be obtained from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) by submitting a TSDS Incident Management System (TIMS) ticket within the TSDS Portal.
