Early Notice – Moving Leaver and Graduate Reporting from the PEIMS Fall to the PEIMS Summer and Extended Year Submissions

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is announcing significant changes to the process for reporting leavers and graduates in the Texas Student Data System (TSDS) Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) for the 2025-2026 school year. These changes are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the accuracy and timeliness of student data reporting.

Overview

Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, current-year leaver and graduation data will be reported in the PEIMS Summer and Extended Year Submissions. TEA will update both submissions to include all the data necessary for TEA to determine leaver and graduate information for a school system. Leaver and graduate data will no longer be reported in the PEIMS Fall Submission after the 2025-2026 school year. 

The 2025-2026 school year will be a transition year. Leaver and graduate data for the 2024-2025 school year will be reported in the 2025-2026 PEIMS Fall Submission. Leaver and graduate data for the 2025-2026 school year will be reported in the 2025-2026 PEIMS Summer and Extended Year Submissions. The leaver and graduate collection change will allow TEA to better comply with the federal reporting deadlines for certain EDFacts and Perkins submissions.

• School systems must adjust their internal timelines to meet the new reporting deadlines.
• Staff must familiarize themselves with the updated criteria for reporting leavers and graduates to ensure accurate data submission.

1. Review the Updated Guidance: It is essential that all relevant staff review the Early Notice published in the TSDS Web-Enabled Data Standards (TWEDS) on Sept. 3, 2024.
2. Prepare for Early Submissions: Begin adjusting internal processes now to meet the new deadlines.
