Explore Our Teams

The Office of Analytics, Assessment, and Reporting (OAAR) provides tools, services, and supports to school systems to help ensure every Texas student is on-track and ready for college, career, or the military through high-quality state assessments, a transparent, rigorous, fair academic accountability system, and accurate, comprehensive research and reporting. OAAR is made up of six divisions: Assessment Development, Student Assessment, Performance Reporting, Research & Analysis, Analytics, and Data Strategy and Analytics.

The Office of Educator Support is responsible for ensuring that Texas recruits, supports, and retains effective teachers and principals to serve the 5.5 million public school students in Texas and leads the agency’s work to improve low-performing schools across the state and to support districts in developing high-quality options.

The Office of Finance is responsible for ensuring effective stewardship of state, local, and federal resources in support of public education in Texas.

The Office of General Counsel is responsible for providing legal counsel to the Commissioner, State Board of Education (SBOE), and the agency regarding a broad array of legal topics relating to the Texas Education Code (TEC), other state laws, and federal laws that relate to primary or secondary education.

The Office of Governance is responsible for improving the governance and overall system performance of local education agencies. This is accomplished through the coordinated efforts from three primary streams of work: Compliance and Investigations, Field Support, and Accreditation and Enforcement. The collaborative approach by these departments allows for a coalescence around the central tenet of supporting the educational progress and improving student outcomes in Texas public schools.

The Office of Operations is responsible for supporting many of the day-to-day functions, including direct support for the Commissioner, managing external relationships and communications, managing many internal cross-agency functions, coordinating TEA’s COVID response, and coordinating amongst and strategizing with the state’s 20 Education Service Centers (ESCs).

The Office of School Programs provides resources, services, and program models to improve educational quality, access, and opportunities for all students in Texas.

The goal of the Office of School Safety and Security is to build the capacity of the regional education service centers (ESCs) and local education agencies (LEAs) to promote the physical and psychological well-being of students and staff - recognizing that safer schools positively impact student outcomes. We align school safety and security expertise with guidance provided through technical assistance to ensure effective best practices are implemented across the state.

The Office of Special Populations and Student Supports is responsible for oversight of special populations program guidance and technical assistance. This includes state and federal compliance, monitoring and reporting, special education complaints and dispute resolution, results-driven accountability continuous improvement, specialized student support programming, and discipline support. To accomplish this, the Office provides resources, services, and supports to improve educational quality, access, and opportunity for students with diverse learning needs in Texas.

The Office of Information Technology (IT) works closely with all agency divisions to implement innovative technology solutions in a cost-efficient manner that supports the goals and priorities of the TEA and provides efficient technology solutions and stellar customer service to internal staff, Education Service Centers, and 1,200+public-school districts and charter schools.
