The Cycle 2 Teacher Leadership Grant for school year 2021-22 is now available on the TEA Grants Opportunity page. This grant provides local education agencies (LEAs) the opportunity to plan and implement teacher leadership models in one of three focus areas (pathways).

Pathway 1, Teachers as Instructional Leaders, provides training and ongoing support for teachers to develop as instructional leaders through the Texas Instructional Leadership (TIL) program. LEAs will work with an approved TIL partner to train teacher leaders in specific instructional leadership practices. LEAs will provide teacher leaders with scheduled time to observe, coach, and develop other teachers on campus. This pathway also provides funding for other members of a campus instructional leadership team to attend TIL training.

Pathway 2, National Board Candidacy Cohorts, provides support for teacher candidates pursuing certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. LEAs will design a National Board Candidacy Cohort model and may use grant funds to partner with an approved external entity. LEAs will support National Board candidates through a series of meetings and through individual mentoring. One of the goals of this pathway is to increase the number of Recognized teachers through the Teacher Incentive Allotment.

Pathway 3, Teacher Policy Fellowships, provides teacher leadership training specific to local policy and programs. Through a series of trainings and meetings with LEA leadership, selected fellows will develop leadership skills and provide meaningful input on LEA Teacher Incentive Allotment Plans, ESSA Equity Plans, or other district-initiated work around equity as described in the program guidelines. Pathway 3 LEAs must work with an approved partner.
