The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is committed to connecting high school to college and career through high-quality resources and informed, intentional advising on Texas high school campuses. TEA believes that school counselors are vital to ensuring that all Texas student are college and career ready, meaning that they are prepared academically, socially, and emotionally to pursue a postsecondary pathway of their own design.
The American Institutes for Research (AIR) and TEA were awarded a five-year (2017–2022) partnership grant from the Institutes of Education Sciences (IES) at the U.S. Department of Education to examine the long-term impacts of the Texas Foundation High School Program on students’ postsecondary success.
How Will My District Be Involved?
Beginning March 2, 2020, AIR will survey districts via an online tool. A survey link will be sent electronically to the district email address provided in AskTED or on the district website. The email will contain a survey link and instructions. TEA requests that superintendents forward the survey link to all high school counselors in the district. The survey will take approximately 25 minutes to complete, and the administration window will remain open through March 27, 2020. Participation is voluntary. All responses will be kept confidential to the extent permitted by law.
Why Should My District Be Involved?
The purpose of this survey is to gather information from all counselors at the high school level about the resources, activities, and tools that their teams use to assist students. Although your district’s participation is voluntary, data provided from the perspective of districts will help to inform future guidance provided by TEA.
How Will Survey Responses Be Used?
To empower counselors and schools with resources that enhance their efforts to guide students toward and along their chosen postsecondary pathways, TEA intends to develop college and career readiness resources that are high-quality and high-impact. TEA seeks to incorporate input from counselors to inform our design process.
