This letter is to inform you of the College, Career, or Military Readiness (CCMR) sections established under HB 3. These sections of the bill reimburse districts for college preparation and industry-based certification exams and provide resources for a study to be conducted on alternative career readiness measures for small and rural districts. Additional information about these sections of the bill are described below. Please share this information with your counselors, administrators, fiscal staff, PEIMS coordinators, and teachers.

Reimburse Districts for College and Industry Exams

  • Goes into effect in the 2019-2020 school year 
    • Reimbursement is provided for students to take the ACT, SAT, or TSIA 
      • Funding is provided once per high school student  
        • Provided for students in their senior year or spring of their junior year
      • TEA will allocate funding beginning in September of 2019-2020 school year so districts can utilize funds to pay for student exams 
        • Districts will settle-up in April of 2021
    • Reimbursement is provided once per high school student for any of the Industry-Based Certifications in A-F accountability 
      • TEA will allocate funding beginning in September of 2019-2020 school year so districts can utilize funds to pay for student exams 
        • Districts will settle-up in April of 2021

Conduct a Study on Alternative Career Readiness Measures for Small and Rural Districts

  • Due January 2021, the study requires TEA to look at alternative career readiness measures for small and rural districts to determine if annual graduates demonstrate career readiness under A-F
