Today, the agency released a new HB 3 in 30 video to explain the new high school graduation requirement regarding post-secondary financial aid applications. The video can be accessed at tea.texas.gov/hb3.
Beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:
- Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
- Submit a signed opt-out form
By fall 2020, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) will make a variety of resources available to support school districts and open-enrollment charter schools in implementing the new requirement. Additionally, an advisory committee will be established in December 2019 to make recommendations to the agency regarding guidance and implementation of the new requirement.
