The annual School Health Survey is now available for school district and open-enrollment charter school completion through May 24, 2024.
Overview
Texas Education Code (TEC), §38.0141, requires all school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide the Texas Education Agency (TEA) information relating to school health and physical activity. The School Health Survey has been developed for this purpose, and data gathered will allow TEA and policy makers to better address the health-related needs of Texas public schools and students. Please forward this correspondence to the most appropriate member of your staff to complete the survey.
Survey Requirements
The survey is expected to take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete. This survey must be completed online and should be submitted only once for each school district and charter school. Responses should reflect the 2023-2024 academic year and may require input from different staff members within the district to completely answer the survey questions. An informational copy of the survey is attached for your convenience.
Please coordinate with staff to ensure that there is only one submission per school district/charter school. Survey respondents are encouraged to continue the survey on the same device and location (IP address). Should a school district or charter school submit the survey more than once, the most recent submission—even if incomplete—will be considered the final submission.
Please note, a district designated as a district of innovation (DOI) may not be exempted from the requirement to participate in the school health survey, because a district designated as a DOI may not be exempted from regulations in Texas Education Code, Chapter 38, Health and Safety. Therefore, TEC, §38.0141 is applicable to a district designated as a DOI.
Please submit data for your district or charter school no later than Friday, May 24, 2024. The staff member assigned to submit the survey should access the survey. All others may view the attachment to review the survey questions.
Input on the School Health Survey is very valuable and will assist TEA and stakeholders in understanding how each district/charter school is implementing school health mandates and other health-related programs and policies. Thank you for your time, and your cooperation in support of this important project is appreciated.
