TEA hosts pre-selection board of managers training in Southside ISD
AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will host a pre-selection board of managers training session for the Southside Independent School District on Saturday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Southside ISD Administration Office, 1460 Martinez Losoya Road, in San Antonio.
Community members are strongly encouraged to attend and participate in the session. TEA staff will be on hand to explain the significant impact and importance that the appointed board of managers’ decisions will ultimately have on student outcomes in the district.
All individuals who have formally submitted a board application have been invited to attend as part of TEA’s board appointment process. The training will provide insight on TEA expectations from the appointed board, specifically on improving student performance on all campuses within the district. In addition, the session will give community members an opportunity to have open discussion with board of manager candidates.
On Dec. 1, 2016, Commissioner of Education Mike Morath notified the Southside ISD of his decision to lower the district’s 2015-2016 accreditation status to Accredited-Warned. In addition, the commissioner advised district leadership of his decision to appoint a board of managers and conservator based on the district’s lowered accreditation status.
A majority of the board of managers must consist of members of the Southside ISD community who are committed to service on behalf of the students of the district. Commissioner Morath will review and make the final selections for the appointed board. A formal announcement regarding the Commissioner’s appointments will be made at a future date.
