TEA Announces Charter School Decisions After State Board of Education Vote

AUSTIN, Texas – June 23, 2023 – The Texas Education Agency today announced the State Board of Education vote and recommendation by Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath to grant four Generation 28 charters. The following Generation 28 charter school applicants successfully received approval to begin serving students in Texas for the 2024-25 school year once contracts and any final contingencies are met:

TEA Releases Final 2021-2022 Financial Accountability Ratings

AUSTIN, Texas – November 10, 2022 – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) today announced final financial accountability ratings for more than 1,200 school districts and charter schools across the state, with 85 percent earning the highest rating possible for 2021-2022.

Created in 2001 by the 77th Texas Legislature, the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) is designed to encourage public schools to improve their management of financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.

Nation’s Report Card Shows Texas is Recovering from the Pandemic in Reading, Much Work Remains in Math

2022 results for the US show broad learning declines, with Texas doing better than most.

AUSTIN, Texas – October 24, 2022 – As Texas educators continue to focus on the difficult task of recovering from pandemic-related learning loss, the 2022 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often called the Nation’s Report Card, shows both strengths and challenges for Texas, while painting a grim picture for the U.S. as a whole. NAEP is administered in reading and math for a sample of students in 4th and 8th grades roughly every two years in every state. 

TEA Approves 1,600 New Teachers for Teacher Incentive Allotment Designation

Nearly $55.5 million in additional funding was awarded for Texas teacher compensation during the 2021-2022 school year 
 

 AUSTIN, Texas – September 29, 2022 – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) today announced 1,600 newly designated teachers are being recognized and rewarded for their outstanding performance in the classroom as part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA). 
 

31 Texas Schools Named 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 297 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022, including 31 schools in Texas. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Secretary Cardona made the announcement during his Road to Success Back to School bus tour.
