Texas Reading Advisory Committee

Commissioner Mike Morath appointed a Reading Advisory Committee in accordance with HB 3 to advise the agency on reading practices. The call for nominations went out on August 1, 2019 and 16 members were ultimately selected to encompass a diverse range of backgrounds, expertise, and current roles. This group includes practitioners and academic professionals with expertise in teaching, educational leadership, bilingual education, ESL, special education and dyslexia. Reading Advisory Committee Meeting Information Update

The Reading Advisory Committee met on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 and Wednesday, January 29, 2020 to discuss and make recommendations concerning a variety of topics related to HB3 Reading Academies. During the two-day convocation, the committee lent their expertise to reviewing the Cohort Leader screening process, the Reading Academy implementation process, as well as participant pathways and artifact evaluation. The next Reading Advisory Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for early April.
