TEA continues our annual partnership with the Military Child Education Coalition

The Texas Education Agency is proud to continue our annual partnership with the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) as we celebrate November as Military Family Appreciation Month. Together, the two organizations recognize the contributions and sacrifices made every day by military families.

Texas is home to more than 80,000 military-connected students in the current 2018-2019 school year. These children face unique challenges that come from the frequent moves, school transitions, and family separation; which are all part military life.

Military and veteran-connected children live in nearly every Texas zip code. MCEC and TEA work together throughout the year by providing resources and technical assistance to school districts of the state through programs designed for students, parents and stakeholders. This partnership uses internet-based technology and the application of lessons learned from collaborative student data collection with Texas A&M University.

Currently 30 Texas school districts have participated in MCEC programs, services and professional development. Overall, program initiatives have been delivered to 60,696 direct participants including students, parents, school personnel, community members and installation representatives and has achieved a positive impact reach of over 279,000 people.

MCEC will continue to collaborate with TEA to provide military families in Texas – or those moving to Texas – access to resources and information regarding public education requirements in the state.
